I have just done something like that. I have filled any pitting with braze though so it should be ok. Lead filling is very weak, will not stand up to being blasted and will go very soft in a powder coat oven. If its really bad you should consider cutting out and replacing. Filling it is covering up a fault badly and with the vibration of the engine and flex of the chassis, it will probably fall off anyway. If you go that bit further and get it right it will be more rewarding in the end. The fact that you are asking here means you had doubts in the first place. Hope this helps.
