I have run one of my Motoplat equipped SS20s without a key for a very long time and have never had an issue. It is hard to get the rotor positioned initially but I am now used to it. It has never moved once tightened.
I also have a Ducati ignition on a motor and it has proved to be exceptionally reliable.

I tend to run my with a key, however there would appear to be a Hewland ignition key epidemic out there as I keep getting sent the wrong ones!
So I am going to run this without a key.
A good friend of mine has never ran any of his engines with a key, but there are a few things to remember.
Firstly, to lap the rotor onto the crank using engine grinding paste to remove any high spots etc.
Secondly make sure you have the Motoplat holder for when you come to tighten the crank nut.
You can use the sprocket holder to tighten it, but there has been a few issues with the crank twisting.

Best regards
